eBelong – Building belonging in European university communities
The eBelong projects are strategic initiatives coordinated by the University of Bucharest, developed within the CIVIS – European Civic University alliance, one of the largest and most diverse academic communities in Europe. With the complementary contribution of CIVIS partner universities, eBelong explores how higher education institutions can create an inclusive, cooperative environment that is geared towards the real needs of students and teachers.
The two projects – eBelong 1 (2020-1-RO01-KA226 – HE-095475) and eBelong 2 (2023-1-RO01-KA220-HED-000158478) – are funded by the Erasmus+ program, the action dedicated to Cooperation Partnerships, supporting the development of conceptual frameworks, tools, and strategies to strengthen the sense of belonging in a modern university. In a context where online learning, mobility, and diversity in academic communities are growing rapidly, understanding the processes of belonging becomes essential for educational success and community integration.
Through the activities and results of the two projects, eBelong leverages the expertise of all universities in the CIVIS alliance to create connected, supportive, and development-oriented learning spaces in which every member of the community—student, faculty, or external partner—can be authentically engaged. The focus is on transnational collaboration, the use of shared resources, and the development of models that can transform the way European universities cultivate belonging.
eBelong projects thus aims to contribute to building a European university culture characterized by inclusion, dialogue, well-being, and shared responsibility, where belonging is not just a concept but a central element of the academic experience and the future development of university alliances.
